Session I :  Charting a New Course (9:30 am –10:45 am) 

Presenter: Dr. Elizabeth Braun, Catawba Community College 

Title: Hyflex Courses: Challenges and Opportunities 

Short Description: This interactive session will include a brief presentation on course modalities and the teaching opportunities that lie within. Then participants will engage in round table discussions sharing how hyflex classes run at their institutions, what technical resources are needed, and best practices for student engagement in these modalities.

Session II: Navigating Change (11:00 am -12:15 pm) 

Presenter: Jo James, MBS, Ed.S., Isothermal Community College 

Title: Navigating Change in Distance Learning: Essential Leadership and Adaptation Skills for Beginners 

Description: This presentation will provide an overview of the CCC Aquaculture program and the development of collaborative partnerships with employers, Universities, and other organizations to promote student learning opportunities and industry development.  Roundtable discussions brainstorming new potential connections at participants colleges will follow Dave’s presentation.

Session III: Reaching New Heights of Engagement (1:30 pm – 2:45 pm) 

Presenter: Dr. Sarah Parlier, Blue Ridge Community College 

Title:   A Coach in Their Corner: The Important Role DL Staff and PLLs Play in Increasing RSI in Online Courses

Description:  The presenter will describe the structural changes a college can put into place to increase RSI in online courses and the various supports that DL Staff and PLLs can offer. Academic leadership, department documentation, professional learning sessions, faculty learning communities, course development, and individual assistance will be discussed. The session will promote an open sharing of ideas among attendees.

Title: Promoting RSI and Engagement with Instructional Videos 

Short Description: Qualitative Descriptive study on the use of instructional videos by undergraduate students

Session II: Charting a New Course - Local Collaborations (11:00 am -12:15 pm) 

Presenter: David Cerino, Carteret Community College 

Title: Developing collaborative connections to the local community, NGO’s, Universities, and other CCC programs

Description:  Preparing for and Navigating campus culture change via Craven’s HOTT and CORD professional development.

Short Description: Interactive and engaging discussion around the types of change we have encountered over the past several years. This space provides a place for participants to share their experiences and best practices.

Title: Charting a New Course – New Modalities & Teaching Opportunities 

Description: This session promised an engaging and interactive discussion around different modalities and teaching opportunities across the NCCCS. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their experiences and best practices.

Title:   Reaching New Heights – Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI)

Description:  This session will highlight the regular and substantive interaction (RSI) requirements for courses. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions, provide best practices, and share what has been learned.
